BULALO PLAZA, EL NIDO

BULALO PLAZA, EL NIDO

Our first dinner in El Nido was at BULALO PLAZA. The owner is a friend of Kuya Joseph Ednalino (our tour guide) and he recommended the resto to us. We were fetched from CASA CECILIA via trike, 100 pesos balikan. We were 9pax so 2 trikes ang kinuha namin.

Medyo madilim yun place and away from the town proper, around 5mins trike ride. Service was a bit slow and the one who took our orders are newly hired so di pa niya alam masyado yun bestsellers ng resto. All the tables were full though so maybe that's a testament to how good the food is.

Our orders were 3 Bulalo, 3 Crispy Kare Kare, 1 Chopsuey and rice. Their viands already includes 1 rice so nag-add na lang kami ng 2 extra rice for the 9pax.

The crispy kare kare is not the usual kare kare that you can order in Gerry's Grill or any resto in Manila. The meat is deep-fried and then smothered with peanut sauce all over. If ang gusto niyong kare kare is yun maraming sauce, baka madissappoint kayo dito. Medyo dry kasi yun kare kare and medyo matigas yun ibang meat. But for 180pesos with rice nang kasama, ok na rin siya. (Good for 3pax and maybe even 4pax if di kayo ma-ulam)

The Bulalo on the other hand is superb! Ok ang timpla and malambot ang meat. You can ask fore more soup if kulang ang sabaw, no addt'l charge. (Good for 3pax)

The chopsuey is good too, maraming gulay and seafoods na hinalo. (Good for 3pax - 4pax)

Anyway, Food is good and tasty. The place is a bit dim and quiet so if you're after a "party scene" better go to the beachfront for that (though not as lively as that of Boracay). Service is ok, medyo mahirap magtawag ng staff so dapat pasensiyoso ka. Our bill came up to around 1500, so for 9 pax ok na rin.

All in all, I'd give the place a 7 out of 10.

**FOOD in EL NIDO is generally expensive but expected since they cater to a mostly foreigner clientelle. For a silog meal, expect to shell our at least 80-150 pesos depending on what you ordered. Burgers cost 200 upwards. Even carinderias are expensive. So if nagtitipid kayo, bring cup noodles and canned goods to lessen the budget for food then buy rice na lang at carinderias.
